Educating About Cervical Cancer Screening Amid the Pandemic

Screening with cytology has paralleled large decreases in cervical cancer mortality in the US. However, the switch to telehealth and temporary pause of nonessential clinical services during the COVID-19 pandemic lead to special challenges in cancer screening and HPV vaccination education and provider-patient communication. In this webinar we will present the 2020 ACOG cervical cancer screening guidelines and introduce an online patient education tool, “Decreasing Overtesting but On time (DOTS-O)” that enables English and Spanish speaking women to make informed decisions about cervical cancer screening and to better communicate with their provider. Panelists will discuss how the DOTS-O tool can be integrated in the clinic environment and in community health education, including for special groups such as immigrant and refugee women.
