Kokaale is committed to social justice advocacy through work at strong nonprofit organizations. She previously worked for Hesperian Health Guides, a nonprofit organization that develops practical, action-oriented health information in many languages that is extensively field-tested and used by individuals and communities around the world to achieve their right to health. Kokaale has previously worked on health education and nutrition projects with community health workers in El Salvador. She also has an interest in criminal justice reform and has worked with incarcerated populations since 2012. Kokaale has studied abroad in Venezuela (2008) and Spain (2012) and is currently a program volunteer with Youth for Understanding. She speaks Spanish fluently and has supported immigrant workers in the U.S. with little English proficiency. In her free time, Kokaale is most often exploring new trails, bike paths and farmers markets with her partner and two year old son.
